New Orleans College Prep was founded in 2006 in response to New Orleans' bold, post-Hurricane Katrina plan to place all of its schools--two-thirds of which had been failing--in the hands of charter school operators. This meant NOCP was financing two new schools and a new pre-K program, and suddenly had 200 employees, but was operating internally the same way as when it was just one school.
